*Shutdown in downtown Srinagar after local militant’s killing*Srinagar, Nov 25: A complete shutdown is being observed in the downtown areas of Srinagar against the killing of a local militant in the city’s Rambagh area during a shootout.Reports said that businesses and shops are closed in areas falling under the downtown jurisdiction even as the movement of traffic is thin. The shutdown is being observed against the killings of militants one of whom Mehran Yaseen hailed from Nawa Kadal area of the Srinaagr city. On Wednesday, police claimed to have killed three militants in a brief shootout in Srinagar’s busy market. However, eyewitnesses said that the trio was killed in ‘cold blood’ and that they were not carrying any weapons.The police identified the dead as The Resistance Front “commander” Mehran Yaseen Shalla from Jamalatta here, Manzoor Ahmad Mir and Arafat Ahmad Sheikh from Pulwama.Meanwhile, voices have grown against the said shootout with many questioning its legitimacy. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti while quoting media reports said ‘firing was only from one side.’

The United Arab Emirates has announced a $10 billion fund for investments in Turkey.The investment comes as Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan signed several agreements in Ankara on Wednesday.The countries agreed on cooperation in the fields of energy, oil and health sectors and also signed an agreement to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing.The crown prince’s visit is his first official visit to Turkey since 2012 and the first top-level meeting between the UAE and Turkey in recent years.

*Suspicious Object Inside J&K Branch Janipur Jammu Creates Panic* *Nothing Found: Senior Police Officer* M S NazkiJammu, Nov 24 (GNS): Panic gripped a bank branch after some suspicious object was found inside it in Janipur area of Jammu.A senior police officer told GNS that soon after receiving information about the presence of suspicious object, a police team was rushed to the Janipur branch of the J&K Bank. The staff and consumers were removed and searches launched, he said. However, he said, nothing was found from the object even as searches in rest of the premises are continuing. (GNS)

DC Bandipora distributes Tractor under SMAM, CapexBandipora, Nov 23: Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad Tuesday handed two tractors to the farmers of Gurez sponsored under Centrally Sponsored Scheme, Sub Mission Agriculture Mechanization (SMAM) and Capex budget. DC Bandipora handed over keys to the farmers in presence of Joint Director, Planning, Bandipora, Imtiyaz Ahmad, Chief Agriculture Officer Bandipora, Mujtaba Yahya, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer Gurez Farooq Ahmad Joo and other concerned officers of the district. It was informed at the occasion that the Agriculture department had provided two Tractors to the farmers belonging to Tulail and Bagtore villages of Gurez Sub Division. Under the scheme, the department pays a subside of Rs two lac for each tractor. The Deputy Commissioner informed that this year 17 tractors shall be distributed among farmers out of which 10 tractors under Capex Budget while 7 tractors shall be provided under SMAM.

*Unidentified body found In Kokernag*Waris Shah Anantnag 23 Nov (GNS): The body of an unidentified man was found in Kokernag area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday morning, officials said.The man apparently looks like an outsider wearing a blue trouser and white shirt, they said. However there is no visible torture marks etc on the body found at Voi Bemdoora village of Kokernag, they said.A police official told GNS some locals spotted the body lying in field and subsequently informed the concerned police station.He said that a police party rushed to the spot and took it into their possession. He said that efforts are underway to ascertain the identity. (GNS)

*Freezing Conditions Grip Kashmir, Srinagar Records Season’s Coldest Night* Srinagar, Nov 23 (GNS): Freezing cold conditions prevailed in Kashmir Valley as Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K, experienced the coldest night of the season with temperature plummeting as low as minus 2.3°C on Tuesday. A meteorological department official here told GNS that minimum temperature in Srinagar was minus 2.4°C below normal for this time of the year and surpassed previous low of minus 1.6°C recorded only yesterday. The official said last year on November 22, minimum temperature dropped to minus 3.0°C in Srinagar while lowest ever was recorded November 29 , 1934 when mercury plummeted to minus 7.8°C. Qazigund, the gateway town of Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.2°C against minus 2.2°C on the previous night, he said. It was minus 2.3°C below normal for the place, the official said.Pahalgam, the famous resort in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 4.4°C against minus 3.7°C on previous night and it remained the coldest place across J&K.Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 1.1°C against minus 1.3°C on previous night and normal of 0.6°C, the official said.Kupwara town in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.0°C against minus 2.9°C on the previous night, the official said.Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmir, recorded a minimum of minus 3.0°C against minus 0.8°C on the previous night, the official said.Ladakh’s Leh recorded a low of minus 8.5°C against last night’s minus 8.0°C while Kargil town recorded a low of minus 4.0°C. Drass in Kargil, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, recorded a low of minus 12.8°C, the official said.The weatherman has forecast mainly dry weather in Jammu and Kashmir with morning fog at isolated places over plains of Valley.“Weather is most likely to remain cold and dry till ending November in whole J&K. However, there's 40-50% chance of very light snowfall over extreme North Kashmir on November 25,” the official told GNS. “Overall, there's no forecast of any major weather for next two weeks.” (GNS)
